Labor went surprisingly well for me. I started having cramps around 1pm on Tuesday and then they got more intense so I called my doctor and she told me to head to the hospital. We arrived at the hospital at 6pm, they checked me into triage and confirmed I was in active labor...by that point there was no doubt in my mind that I was in labor! They then switched me into the labor and delivery room where I received the best thing on earth...my epidural! I seriously don't know how people have babies without one. I was only 4 cm dilated and I was screaming for one! After the epidural I was completely numb and tired so Ryan and I slept until 7 am. At that time I was completely dilated and ready to push. The nurses weren't sure I would know how to push correctly since I was numb so they had me practice. Turns out I knew what I was doing because they wanted me to stop pushing and wait for the doctor to arrive. The doctor wasn't even at the hospital and was still twenty minutes away. So there I was, waiting for the doctor to come when Riley, being the sneaky girl that she is, decided to come out all by herself without me even pushing. The nurse ended up delivering her! The doctor finally came five minutes after she was born and couldn't believe it was already over...neither could we! So, to make a long story short, I was in active labor for 13 hours and pushed for 20 minutes...not bad for a first timer =)
We spent Tuesday and Wednesday night at the hospital and came home last night. Wednesday night was hard since I couldn't move around much and I was so tired. Riley kept us up most of the night. Since I have been home I have been feeling a lot better. Riley and I are still getting use to the whole nursing thing. She seems to being latching on better and I haven't had any pain with it yet. Ryan and I love to sit and stare at her. She is so cute and we feel so blessed that she arrived safely, healthy and two weeks early!
Below are pictures of the whole experience. My mom is here and she has been a great help. Thanks so much Mom! You are the best! Next week my dad and Pam are coming and the following week Ryan's mom is visiting. We would like to extend an open invitation to anyone that would like to come visit us and the baby. Next week we move into our new house so we will have plenty of room for company. We miss all of you dearly and hope you have a great weekend!
